The 2008 Crystal Beach 5K is in the books. We had our best turnout in this our 4th year of hosting the race in Crystal Beach. It was a bright and sunny day, temperature at the time of the start was 68 degrees, no wind, excellent day for a PR. Our male winner was Rodney Hulstein with a course record time of 15:50. While our female winner was 11 year old Stephanie Ryall running a sensational 19:56. Congratulations to both runners and we hope to see you both next year to defend your titles!

The following is from the December 2006 Lancaster Striders Newsletter.
A Certain Strider's Opinion by Gene "Flash" Baran
We enter races and ask for a resonable fee, a worthy cause, a well run course, fair weather, safety by all means (as Bridget found out), maybe a PR and a thumbs up or down award-a great party. Most of this could not be accomplished were it not for the race director. They may be invisible to almost all the runners, which could be both good and/or bad. There are some enlightened individuals who with their personality are: 1.) flexible, 2.) approachable, 3.) pleasant, and most importantly, 4.) are able to solve impromptu problems with the aplomb of a diplomat. Here, in no ranking whatsoever are five race directors who have stood out over the years.
Lindsay's Legacy - November
Mississippi Mudds - August
Friends of Crystal Beach 5K - October
Bunny Hop - April
Reindeer Run - December
For anyone planning on making a weekend or an overnighter of the event we recommend the following accomodation for your stay as there is plenty to do in our area from visiting Niagara Falls (which is only 20 minutes away), enjoying an evening out in one of our fine eateries along the lake, stroll the shore on a beautiful fall day or evening, and for those who enjoy the night lights and excitement of the casinos we have 4 within 10 to 20 minutes of Crystal Beach. After the 5K run we are only a stroll away: www.crystalbeachmotel.com

The overall winners of the 2006 Crystal Beach 5k were:
Male: John McMahon - 16:20.67

Our race drew competitors from 8 to 72 years of age. We were happy to have back with us this year Edna and Kayla who exemplify the spirit of athletics.
The post race party at the Palmwood. A great day for a race and an equally great day for a party on the lake.
October 8, 2005
2005 was our first year of sponsoring this event. 103 runners/walkers crossed the finish line on what turned out to be a chilly fall day. The race began on Ridge Rd. across from the entrance to the Crystal Beach Yacht and Tennis Club and wound its way along Erie Rd. toward the Buffalo Canoe Club to a turn around point. Runners then continued back along the same course to the finish line which was at the same point as the start of the race. Runners let it be known, this is a beautiful flat, fast, out and back, certified course. If you are looking for a personal record in the 5K this is the course for you. Last year's honorary race starter was Perry Longboat a descendent of one of Canada's most legendary distance runners; Tom Longboat.
The overall winners of the 2005 Crystal Beach 5K Run were:
Men: Hermann Pohl - 18:30
Women: Joanne York - 19:20
