The Grand Marshal of the 2009 End of Summer parade was

Mr. Fred Truckenbrodt

Fred is 90 years young with most of those years spent in our own Crystal Beach.  Fred spent many of his younger years working in the Crystal Beach amusement park where he did everything from tying up the Canadiana when it would pull up to the pier, selling tickets to the dance hall, shining the dance hall floor so it looked like the reflection of the moon on the lake, served as a lifeguard on the beach, painted several of the rides and on and on we could go.  No one posseesses a greater love for Crystal Beach than Fred.  For those reasons along with his being a fine gentleman that we made him our Grand Marshal for the year 2009.

Let the Parade Begin!

What does this tell you about the Oakwood residents?

"Celebrate Summer of 08"

"The burial of "old man summer"

Saturday August 30, 2008

Another long anticipated summer has now come and gone.  Though it brought us more than our share of rain our community made the best of those days that the sun did shine. And with that we celebrated the Summer of 08s time with us.

We had mermaids in the parade this year.

How about the winning float of 2008, the main characters from the Wizard of Oz showed up bringing their own rainbow along for the ride! The bar has been raised for 2009. They will be a tough group to beat next year.

The Oakwood Ave."Day Care Center" was this years Silver Medal winner.

The Schooley Rd. Crew brought a bit of Paradise to our parade this year.

The Capt. readies the Crystal Beach Public School "crew" to set sail.

Glad to have one of our new businesses join us in this years parade.

Who would have expected the gang from "Pee Wee's Playhouse" to show up?  Never put it past "Hoppy" to figure a way to be in the parade and still windsurf in the neighborhood.

"Hoppy" wasn't the only one with a bike in the parade this year.

We had bikes, automobiles, trucks, floats and boats in this years parade.

AND SO IT HAS COME AND GONE AND WE SHALL REMEMBER IT FONDLY . . . . . . .

"Your Last Fix of Summer 06"

This was the renewal of a cherished tradition for the ending of summer at the beach.   A community parade accompanying a casket wound its way through the village of Crystal Beach carrying the symbolic remains of the Summer of 2006. The event ended with a party for all the revelers.

Saturday September 2nd - What a great day for the Crystal Beach community and the "Friends of Crystal Beach" itself.  Many thanks to John McCarthy and his committee for all the time, effort and hard work they put in bringing back to life(no pun intended) an age old tradition at Crystal Beach.  We also can't say enough about all those that braved the cold and rainy weather to be in the parade or came out and cheered on those that were a part of it.  Thanks to all the businesses that either had a float, offered a prize or donated money to help us defray the costs of the parade and party that followed.  Hats off to Crystal Beach Elementary School for providing the refreshment tent after the parade. Special thanks to the Town Staff, Fire Departments and Police for making things so easy regarding the interworkings of setting something of this nature up. What a great communal effort by all and it shows what we can do when we work together to make a difference here at the beach.

Special thanks go to all of the businesses and individuals who donated to help make our End of Summer Parades a huge success.  It was truly a community effort!!!!

This is a photo of the "1969 Burial of Summer".  By the dress of the cottagers you can see it was a very solemn event.
