Pictured in the photo above are the June 2007 Good Neighbour Award winners, Darcy Roy(2nd from the left) and Steve Seburn(far right) receiving their award from Chairperson Cindy Pequeen(far left).  These two young men broke up an attempted robbery of our Shell gas station on Ridgeway Rd. where they are employed and then chased down the would be hold up man, apprehended him and held him until the police could come and arrest him.  These two gentlemen are fine examples of the good persons residing in our neighbourhood.  Along with their certificates of honor, Darcy and Steve were presented with cards for two free rounds of golf courtesy of Ridgeway Shores Golf Course.

Traditionally we make our "Good Neighbour Awards" in June, July and August, however we really feel that this past October 13-15th weekend brought out a huge number of Good Neighbours.  These "Good Samaritans" deserve a big thank you for their willingness to get out and help where and however possible.  We saw groups working together to open people's driveways, clear streets, move timber off of roofs and checking on the condition of their neighbours.  It is in difficult times like these that so many people rise to the occasion to help others. Our hats are off to all of you that helped Crystal Beach get back on its feet.

June 2006 Award Winners

Our winners for June are Andy Thomson and Chris Graves.

Andy is a life long resident of Crystal Beach and as a young student growing up here, he was lucky enough to find a summer job working at the Amusement Park.  This without question was every young person's dream to be working in a place so many people came to visit because of its "coolness".  Andy was nominated for his relentless volunteerism at the Crystal Beach Public School.  He serves as the School Council Chairperson, helped paint the beautiful murals found on the inner school walls, started a guitar club for the kids and volunteered to give lessons at no cost, has arranged numerous barbecues to raise funds for various needs such as the playground at the school and has an immense pride in our community.

Chris'  9 year old niece nominated him saying he is a wonderful, hard working individual who is often seen running from place to place trying to help others that live in the neighborhood.  He always is willing to lend a hand to someone in need.  He is devoted to the community and beside that she says he is funny, likes to help kids and is good at fixing things!

Both "Good Neighbors" received a certificate honoring them for their efforts.  Along with that Andy was given a $25.00 gift certificate to the Palmwood Restaurant while Chris, the Mr. "Fixer Upper" was given a $25.00 gift certificate for the new True Value Hardware Store in our neighborhood.  Congratulations to you  both and we are happy to have two people like yourselves living in Crystal Beach.

July Award Winners

Grace and Kim

 July 2006 Award Winners

July's "Good Neighbour Award" was presented to our first mother/daughter team:  Kim Matthews and Grace Bath.  They both  have contributed immensely to the community.  They spend unlimited volunteer hours working to help the Crystal Beach Elementary School.  If there is an activity to benefit the school you will find Kim and her mom working at it.   Kim and her mom, Grace, managed the bingos which provided funding for the creation of our Waterfront Park and Queen's Circle.  Both are long-time community members having resided here their entire lives.  This team received "Good Neighbour Award" certificates and a gift certificate for dinner at the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant.

August Award Winner

Our August "Good Neighbour Award" was presented to a man who "lives and loves" Crystal Beach as few do.  He is known by his friends and those that frequent Bay Beach as "Bucky" or "Buckets".  This year round resident is the all around Goodwill Ambassor for our community.  Bucky has always been connected with Cyrstal Beach and helps maintain the awesome beauty of the beachfront.  He is on the beach mornings before most of us rise and is busily picking up any debris left behind the day before.  Each year he gathers beach toys left behind by some of our forgetful visitors and takes them to our elementary school to be given to some of our local children.  He has erected a wire configuration around the concession stand so patrons are not harassed by our hungry seagull population.  He can be seen and heard on any given day of the week extolling the merits of Crystal Beach as a place you would want to live and play.

Bucky has been presented a "Good Neighbour Award" certificate and a $25.00 Gift Certificate for Coconut Joe's Restaurant.  Our hats are off to you "Bucky" aka "Buckets" for your positive community spirit and actions.

July 2005 Award Winners

Presented to Jon Shred, Mary Jean Trainor, Matthew Trainor and Victor Trainor at the Waterfront Concert on Sunday, July 31.  All four of July's winners are students in our community.  They were nominated because of their efforts to help make our community shine this summer.  Jon helped develop the design for our Welcome to Crystal Beach mural at the Ashwood entry way to the beach along with painting it.  He would often be seen on Erie Rd. cleaning the litter and debris left behind by unconcerned visitors or residents.   Mary Jean, Matt and Victor worked on their own initiative to keep the beach clean each morning before they started their day.  They were seen mornings collecting the refuse left on the beach in shopping bags which they would then take to the appropriate places for disposal.  Too often we hear or read stories of kids getting into trouble for one thing or another.  These 4 winners clearly show that there are youngsters in our community that do care and take action to help make it a better place to live.   Recipients received certificates of recognition as well as gift certificates for the "Cover to Cover" bookstore in Ridgeway.

August 2005 Award Winners

Our winners for August were Stacy and Ethan McDonald, Michelle Nicholls and James Puhl.

Michelle is a daily volunteer at the Crystal Beach Public School.  While there, Michelle runs the lunch counter where she has revamped the menu to assure the students get a hearty, healthy meal.  She also oversees the purchase of the necessary groceries and the preparation of each meal.  Michelle is always eager to make school a positive experience for the students and goes the extra mile to make the Crystal Beach Public School a setting of which the community can be proud.

James Puhl was nominated by his neighbor Patty Galbraith.  She noted that James took the time to be on the board of directors for the Crystal Beach waterfront project which was another positive step in revitalizing our community.  In a neighborhood filled with good neighbors it is suggested that Jim may be the best of them all.  Jim's neighbors realize that he is always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  His neighbors tip their hats to him for his on going willingness to make a difference.

Stacy and baby Ethan McDonald have been involved as volunteers in the grade one class at Crystal Beach Public School to help teach children about empathy.  Ethan it was noted was a smiling volunteer while Stacy shared her parental knowledge during their frequent visits to the school.

Our August award winners were presented with gift certificates for dinner at The Crystal Chandelier, The Lakeview and the Palmwood Restaurants.
